I am an assistant professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. My doctorate in politics is from George Washington University and I specialize in comparative political economy & public policy. I joined Temple in 2000. Prior to graduate school I was a policy analyst in Washington D.C. for Tokyo Electric Power Company and a contract researcher for National Council of La Raza. As a much younger person, I studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford (Hertford College) I came to the United States in 1989, in part to escape the poll tax, and in part for the allegedly better weather. I am married to Deirdre Martinez, and we have two children, Nelson Miles and Anna Isabel (Isa). We live in Wyndmoor, a close-suburb of Philadelphia.
